Guys,
What is your plan if IV decides to CHEAT all the contributors for FOIA request? I've decided not to participate in any future initiative by IV if I don't see FOIA information.

Please remember that IV was the only organization making an effort to get the data. The data displayed on the USCIS page is also a result of the the efforts made by IV members (my thanks to the members who supported and/or participated the effort).
The PD movement in the next VB will tell us which data is accurate.
Based on the public data, it seems that the data that USCIS gave IV is way off , totally wrong and useless. Given the fact that IV got this "data" just one or two days before the real one was publicly available, it seems IV is totally scammed. I heard IV paid 5000 US dollars for this data? What a big scam from the government!
IV should totally ask for a refund.

Beauty of the lobby is that it will have both sides. If anti can make noise about more immigrants, business can lobby about resource availability. So it should find a balance.. It is the same infamous "death panels" argument that didn't win in Healthcare debate.
So I wouldn't worry as much about this as Ron G would..
Guys,
The below clause, as I feared is likely to kick all the goodies included for EB. Can IV confirm it's not the case or work against this clause?
I rarely quote Ron...here is one such occasion to show that my worry about the 'clause' is not alone:
Honestly, is there still a chance for CIR to be debated and pass this summer? (http://www.immigration-information.com/forums/pending-immigration-legislation/10860-honestly-is-there-still-a-chance-for-cir-to-be-debated-and-pass-this-summer.html)

What you are missing is the part about the "employment commission." This has been proposed (and shot down) several times in the past. It proposes that the employment based categories and quotas be kept open so that a commission can make determinations as to the needs of American businesses and recommend changes to Congress. Under this system, which will be dominated by unions, the commission will determine whether shortages exist in different fields. To the extent that they determine that a shortage exists, they will recommend a fixed level of immigration for that field. Putting aside the insanity of government trying to tell business who they need, the lag times between recognized shortages being acknowledged, the commission proposing remedies, and Congress acting will ensure that US businesses will offshore the rest of the tech jobs that are still here. Can you imagine tech companies going to this commission and begging for more IT personnel, only to have the Programmer's Guild step up (as they always do) and argue that there are too many IT workers here already? This portion of the legislation should be named the "Kill the IT Industry in America Act of 2010."
What good will it do to eliminate per country quotas if no one can qualify to immigrate?
"
Thanks!

In what way can the IOs morally combine the two completely different issues of "domestic help" versus "The need for Parental presence/affection for Emotional help and guidance" and the "Emotional bonding time that a grandmother needs to bond with her first grand child" !!! I always seethe with rage whenever I hear about IOs denying parental visit to help out during pregnancy...The IOs always distort the 'help out' aspect with 'domestic/nanny help' and nothing else. Whereas almost always its much more than a mere 'nanny help'.
I totally agree with your sentiment but your argument is missing the social context of the country your are seeking a visa to. Here people are mostly independent and after an age neither the parents care for their children nor the children want/seek their parents help.(It would apply to 90% of the cases)
If you look at the current economic crisis, one common thread to most troubled stories is that they are single parents with no help from any one including their parents.
IO being insensitive to the realities of other societies is no surprise. As a Visa seeker we need to adjust to answer in a politically correct way.
My 2 cents.

I saw this on the IRS website.
------------------
Q. I have an ITIN, but my spouse has a valid Social Security number. Can we get a payment?
A. If you and your spouse file a joint return, you will not get a stimulus payment. If your spouse files a separate return, your spouse may qualify for a payment, based on his or her income deductions and credits.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Does this mean If I file jointly with my wife who has an ITIN, I will not get any rebate ? Not even the 600$ for my SSN?
Can somebody please clarify or give more inputs.

IV reaching out to new members is taboo?
Why are you reaching out to lawmakers....because you want them to make favorable laws benefiting immigrants....will they do it without your reaching out...maybe...but most likely not
so reaching out makes a difference isn't it
but you want to do it without reaching out to them. Think about it...ya it might happen...but won't you get better results and more resources if you reach out.
I didn't blame anyone for anything...nor did i question anyone's efforts or intentions...i was simply seeking basic information about the organization and how it is run....i am guessing here ...but i think this is the first question on people's minds when they decide to contribute or not...a good PR campaign to promote IV among existing 1000's of members on this site won't be a bad thing
I am well versed in technology and i have offered my help in this area
Wrong...no one is helping IV...its other way around. Now tell me who needs to contact who.
We are reaching to law makers as we want a favor from them. But IV is - I + We.....I am here because I want help myself and you are here because you want to help yourself.
We are not doing any favor to IV or any one else. We are here because we are suffering and need a way out.

Looks like this is going into the deaf ears of IV core. Upon repeated posts/repeated private messages to nixster and Pappu, they are not caring about those who donated for FOIA cause anymore. They are worried only about "Monthly donors" now. Fine, may be those who all donated for FOIA and not getting updates may need to ask for the refund from IV. I will never ever donate if there is a fund raising campaign for any future issues.
When FOIA funding drive was on, we clarified with core that this drive is for a specific cause. They mentioned that this could cost more than $5K and we extended the drive for 10K.
I wish the data will be published soon to everyone - at lease who contributed for that specific funding drive.

All,
I just talked to the NSC customer rep and he basically stated that my case is still sitting on the shelf which is pretty scary. He refused to talk about name check clearance and clarified that my case has NOT yet been assigned to a IO. It looks like I am in for a long wait.
My priority date: May 18, 2004
I-140 appoved date: Jan 25, 2007
I-485 received date: July 2, 2007
I-485 notice date: Aug 2, 2007

Thanks God, today my Attorney received a call from USCIS. They accepted that my case was received on July 27, 2007, but they could not find it. So, my attorney received special instructions to refile. I am really happy to finally have an answer.

We need numbers in couple of thousands minimum. Not hundreds.
If you are motivating friends / collegues or planning to attend with more people (spouse), this number should be tracked. I think we should start tracking this. I can not access other websites from here but could someone create google document or yahoo to maintain list?

All bachelors making a mad dash to shaadi.com :p :D :p :D ;)
Now thats a relief for all of us!
I do have this question:
How long does it take if I get my GC now (as a bachelor) and then later on apply GC for my wife? I heard its around 4-5 years again?
So, would it be a better decision to wait and not apply for 485 (I have my 140 approved as of Dec 06) now until I get married to be able to apply it together with my wife?
Comments/opinions please!
Thanks!
