Find a company that lets you work from home when your kid is sick ( I guess if you are starting a company soon...you could probably put it as an employee benefit). & find a daycare thats reasonably flexible.
Question is....whether we live to work or work to live.

Like many of you I heard/read conflicting information about vaccinations, so I decided to do my little research and take data from the sources and not rely on others. I hope this helps others.
Vaccination Requirements for Adjustment of Status(aka I-485) applications
Source: http://www.uscis.gov/propub/ProPubVAP.jsp?dockey=673ed820640308486e0cb544838d9 683
(3) Required Vaccinations . Section 212(a)(1)(A)(ii) of the Act specifies the following vaccinations: mumps, measles, rubella, polio, tetanus and diphtheria toxoids, pertussis, Haemophilus influenzae type b, and hepatitis B. Section 212(a)(1)(A)(ii) of the Act states that the applicant is also required to have any other vaccinations recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP). The ACIP provides guidelines on appropriate doses of vaccines at specific intervals for specific age groups. The varicella, influenza, and pneumococcal vaccines are also required, because they are currently recommended by the ACIP.
From the highlighted list above, only the following are administered as a "standard practice" (per my county health person).
MMR (Mumps, Measles, Rubella)
Td (Tetanus and diptherial toxoids)
Varicella (Chickenpox)
You first goto the USCIS authorized Civil Surgeon to have physical examination
He/She examines and recommends if any immunization is needed
You get the recommended vaccinations
Go back with the proof and he/she gives you the complete report (I-693) - sealed.
Pregnancy and Vaccinations
MMR
Source: http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/vpd-vac/should-not-vacc.htm#mmr
Pregnant women should wait to get MMR vaccine until after they have given birth. Women should avoid getting pregnant for 4 weeks after getting MMR vaccine.
Td
Source: http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/vpd-vac/should-not-vacc.htm#td
To make a proper diagnosis of whether a person should or should not get the Td vaccine, tell your doctor or nurse if the person getting the vaccine is pregnant
Varicella
Source: http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/vpd-vac/should-not-vacc.htm#varicella
Pregnant women should wait to get chickenpox vaccine until after they have given birth. Women should not get pregnant for 1 month after getting chickenpox vaccine.
Bottomline: NO vaccinations in pregnancy

Guys,
I'm thinking of cancelling/re-routing the trip through Lufhtunsa. But want to understand if it's a requirement to have teh transvit visa for flying from US to India or is it a requirement from India to US only.
Is there any place this is listed/clarified on the German consular web sites?

Now we have to run after BECs to make sure they send papers (approved labor) to our respective lawyers. We are reduced to being treated as paupers. Just can't understand how does it take more than 4 weeks to mail papers after the status on the website shows "certified"

I traveled last month on AP. Absolutely no issues. Very nice IO at POE at EWR airport.
I could see many folks in H1 and AP. Everyone was being stamped pretty fast in various queues around me.

Thats a fools paradise. I think they are pretty well aware of consequences ,if one doesnt have US license who will provide insurance how can they be credit checked? there are so many things tied to it rather going back to home country. Its insane. I dont think all other states will start doing this , many states already became a pain with myriad of dox required. May be just MI doesnt need any more immigrants with much of unemployment already. Thats the implicit message so sick of it.
By temporary immigrants, do they mean F-1/H-1B visa holders? I am assuming EAD holders are excluded since they are NOT temporary immigrants or non-immigrants.
It is still very unfortunate, though.

The crazy ordeal comes to an end... I got my ead today...
Man.. this is the toughest and persistent effort i have taken so far in mylife. after going through this I have decided I will spend atleast an hour every month visiting my congressman office and seek his help on our issues. I encourage each of you to do so. IV has excellent material. We should have our cards by 2012 and its only possible by legislative fixes. we all need to be persistent in letting our lawmakers know our pain... wake up now.
Congratulations!
The need to meet with lawmakers as often as a month, representing IV and seeking their support on our issues is the path to finding solutions to our problems. Please be active in your state chapter and include others in your lawmaker meetings.

is to be logically done after 48 hours; that is when the TB skin test (and if necessary chest x-ray to be taken) result shows up.
How can this doctor do physical on the same day of appointments; Beats me;that could be contrary to INS and medical guidelines. Appointees beware and use your DD.
Hi factoryman,
Let me correct my statement. It's not the same day we went for Physical examination on Friday. All the vaccination has been done on that day. They asked us to come back on Monday morning. Yes you are right they need 48 hrs to test the Skin/TB test. If you don't get appointment in other places. Try this walkin option. It's reliable. Good service.
one more thing if u r positive for TB test then will recommend for xray.which is included in the same price. No extra charge

First you will have to understand IV is run by volunteers who has a full time job and family to take care. More most of the IV core people are alreay GC holders and no one is getting paid for their time and effort. The only goal is to fix the back log.
We can not make everything public as there are so many vested interest and will harm our efforts. We do not have enough support, resource to declare a open war like undocumented people. So we will have to keep thing under wraps. If you want to tak part, there are various groups working on various fix. Join one those group, spend time and you will understand and appreciate what the volunteers are doing.
Thanks,

Can you post the negative points your lawyer told you about EB3 to EB2 conversion ?
I understand. I'm also in similar situation. Filing another case in EB2 is no doubt best thing to do. Money is not the main factor. But I'm afraid new labor approval (considering PERM delay), I-140 approval and refile (with older PD) may take close to two years (considering current processing time). Also if many of us are doing this then another new rule may be introduced to "block" these cases as they will notice sudden increase of EB2!! Another thing is we're already in AOS pending state. I'm not sure what will be the impact of doing this now. I hope you've discussed all these with your lawyer. I told my lawyer about it and he came up with all negative sides of EB3 to EB2 PD transfer. But I'm still thinking to go for it.

This was the first thing we did in Jan. when we got started. It won't hurt to do it again. We aurge all the members to do what best they can do to reach out to people, as you have suggested the poster there's also email tempelate. Please use them.
There is a poster at

IV members can take printouts and post them in indian /ethinic grocery stores in their town. There are several other people who come to these stores and are in the same boat as us. It would help publicize IV and increase the support.
Another idea might be to have 'send to a friend ' feature on the site , so that members can forward useful information or thread to others.
Great work IV team!!

smartsteve is right!
What is being seen here is an extreme irrational response, which will lead to nothing. Still if people feel that sending flowers will help they should do it (although if anybody feels this will actually change how the USCIS functions, they are either extremely naive or highly delusional)
Houston,
The idea of this response is to attract the attention of the public to this issue and to show our protest. We are responding to an injustice done to us in an unorthodox way and I believe that if enough people participate... it will be news enough for the media to cover this story! Once again... this is not for USCIS to change their minds! This is to embarrass them in front of the public!
There was a time when satyagraha was considered irrational! Did that work?
This may not be satyagraha but don't call people irrational and delusional if they are doing something they believe in. At least they are ready to act on this! What have you done? Do u think that sitting around thinking that nothing will happen will fix your problems?
We do not know what the outcome of this endeavor will be but we are at least doing something! None of these people are delusional or irrational! It is you who are delusional if you wait for something to happen and hope that "that something" will be favorable to you.
There may be senators or AILA for instance trying to react to this decision by USCIS... that doesn't mean that you don't act!

Q. Will the payment I receive in 2008 reduce my 2008 refund or increase the amount I owe for 2008?
A. No, the stimulus payment will not reduce or increase your refund when you file your 2008 return.
Q. Is my stimulus payment taxable?
A. No. You will not owe tax on your payment when you file your 2008 federal income tax return. But you should keep a copy of the IRS letter you receive later this year listing the amount of your payment. You will need to know this amount next year when you fill out your 2008 return.
Why should a tax payer know the stimulus amount he/she received if it does not increase/reduce the refund amount for the tax year 2008 as stated in the first Q?
From Turbotax (http://turbotax.intuit.com/support/kb/tax-content/tax-tips/5462.html)
Will I have to give the rebate back at some point? Or will it be taxed next year and reduce my refund?
No.
However, you might have to report it on your 2008 tax return.
While most people refer to it as a rebate, the IRS is calling it a "stimulus payment."
Its money the government wants Americans to spend to boost the economy. The money will be borrowed by the government and added to the federal deficit.
Hasn't the government issued tax rebates before?
Yes, but not often. The last time was in 2001. The rebates, ranging from $300 to $600, were mailed to two-thirds of U.S. households.
While they were called rebates, the checks were in fact advances or "prebates" on tax-rate reductions for the tax year 2001, which taxpayers would have otherwise enjoyed when filing their taxes in 2002.
From bankrate (http://www.bankrate.com/brm/itax/news/taxguide/20080212_tax_rebate_plan_faq_a3.asp?caret=2m)
What will the rebate mean to my 2008 taxes?
Will I owe taxes on my rebate amount next year? What if this year my situation changes and that means my rebate amount should be less?
For most filers, says Luscombe, this year's rebate will appear as a simple gift from the government. The rebate amounts are tax-free.
But filers will have to reconcile any money they receive this year when they file their 2008 returns.
"It harks back to the 2001 situation when we got the new 10 percent bracket and got an advance check for that. Then on next return had to account for it," says Luscombe. "It's expected to be that way this time."
The 2008 tax forms should have a line for the new credit. When calculating taxes next year, taxpayers will have to subtract what they got as a rebate check the previous summer This doesn't mean you'll have to pay back the rebate amount you get in 2007. It just means that since you got it early (i.e., the summer of 2007), you can't claim it again on your 2008 return.
"Some people might think that's unfair," says Luscombe, "but they got the money, and they got it early."
One thing taxpayers won't have to worry about is giving back any excess if their 2008 taxes show that the advance this year was actually more than they should have received.
"If it turns out that credit on your 2008 return is greater, you get to take that additional amount," says Luscombe. "If it's lesser than what you got in 2007, you don't have to refund that back to government." The law says the IRS can't recover the extra payment by reducing your 2008 refund or adding to your 2008 tax bill.
